Our River
Picture of the Day ------was sent in by Bert Yates. He
writes "Here’s
a sight not often seen on the Upper Miss. Although the picture
quality is poor, the bright white cylinders laying on their side are two of
the four steam generators being replaced at Callaway during this fall’s
outage. The trip started from Chalon, France on May 12th and
they arrived at Callaway’s Missouri River docking facility on June 21st.
Each steam generator weighs in at a svelte 371.5 tons, not
including the packing and shipping containers. Not quite what Mike Tyson
tipped the scales for his last fight, but definitely in the heavyweight class! "
Thanks for the picture and the interesting narrative Bert.

side of Bolters Chute. The story I heard was that the boat made it about
200 yards upstream and to the bank where they tied a line to a tree before it
sank completely. When Crusher and I went by there the Thursday before
Memorial Day all we saw was a black fender with a line tied to it marking the
sunken boat. Well, this weekend apparently work is progressing on
raising the boat with air bags. Having come close to a similar
fate I feel real bad for the Captain of this boat. Last year boating
season almost started this way for me.

Our River Picture of the Day ------
is
of some River
Goats on Goat Island ! I don't think that is
the real name of the island, but that is what I have heard it affectionately
called by a few boaters. It is pretty neat ~ goats living on an
island in Alton Pool. No location on this one because I am not sure the
owners (nor the goats) want a lot of boaters hanging around.
Captain Gary Bowers took this picture for us about a week ago
. Thanks Gary !
