Year's River Picture On This Day ------
What the heck was the picture on RiverBills.com last year on this day ?
It was
actually a series of 6 pictures
named,  "It doesn't look good !"     What is that guy doing wading in the water at the boat ramp ?     Again, we have a few clues -- OH NO !.   it's another vehicle in the water.   Keep pulling -- just a little further.    OK -   Just a little more ---Pull !  Now that we are checking things out --
are there any fish in there ?
Yes, everyone agrees
What a mess !
These pictures were taken by Lisa Beckman
a couple of summers ago at the
Long Shot Saloon in Portage Des Sioux.   She was quick to point out that it wasn't her truck, nor did it belong to any of her friends and that it took two different tow trucks to get it out.

Refinery

There was an article in yesterday's on-line Alton Telegraph with more
information about the proposal for a new oil refinery on the Mississippi River

project and it contains some information about the company that wants to build
the refinery as well. Go to the On-Line

Went to Principia College again, but this time we
went hiking and found a way all the way out on the tip of the bluffs, It
was such a nice view, and a great sunset, my son and I just sat there for
about an hour and a half, even though we were both freezing. To top
it all off, a barge came along at just the right time to make it
complete.....

What the heck was the picture on RiverBills.com last year on this day ?
It was
a picture of some of the work going on at the Calhoun Point Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project.     This picture was taken just a bit down stream from the Brussels Ferry on the Illinois River.   Some of the highlights of the project include berms to protect the 2,100 acre site from frequent sediment laden floods, provide a means to perch water on to the interior to increase waterfowl habitation and reverse some of the siltation that has occurred.   For more information go to the on-line ASE Research library.

Con Trios Yacht Club Spring Ice Breaker Pictures
------ Captain Darryll Weil, out of Woodland Harbor, sent us the
following e-mail with some links to pictures of the Con Trios Yacht Club's
Spring Ice Breaker party last weekend at Pere Marquette Lodge.
Darryll
wrote in his e-mail:
Con
Trios Yacht Club Annual
Ice Breaker
at
Pere
Marquette Lodge
March
24th & 25th, 2006
Every
year the Con
Trios Yacht Club has
an Ice Breaker Party. In years past it was an actual boat cruise down
the Mississippi to Hoppe's Marina near Festus and the party and dance were
held in the Holiday Inn in Festus. Due to the uncertainties of the
weather and ice on the river for the past several years the Ice Breaker has
bee held at Pere
Marquette Lodge north
of Grafton Illinois on the Illinois River.
This
year followed the usual plan. First we enjoyed the hospitality room with
beverages provided by the CTYC and food catered by Sharky's
Cove.
John from Sharky's then played music while everyone relaxed in the Lodge's hot
tub. Again, mysteriously, bubble bath found its way into the hot tub.
Saturday
began with some of the group taking a road trip to Grafton Illinois.
There we had to check out the Wild Goose Saloon, Senger's Tavern and Aries
Winery.
Saturday
evening began with a happy hour in the Lodge's lobby where Teri Ruf took
pictures of the members and printed them out during the evening. Denny
& Pat Galkowski set up a booth to sell Con Trios shirts and such so
Maureen didn't have to go out to the trailer to go shopping! Dinner was
served "Western" style to go with the "Western" theme of
the weekend featuring the Lodge's signature fried chicken and pork steaks.
After dinner new members were introduced and then the Shark's Band played
music. After dancing we again visited the hospitality room and hot tub.

It was a picture of is of a   runabout that crashed through the side of a cruiser.   Looks like the bow of the smaller boat went all the way through the cruiser, knocked the top loose and up away from the boat.   Captain Gary Bowers out of  Woodland Marina sent in this picture.   He is not sure of the origin, but I did notice that the cruiser has Missouri numbers on it.

platform.
Looks like a picture taken during the search effort. It's the Missouri
State Water Patrol doing their job....and what a cold, grim job it is

We did get a pretty good shot of one of their new
boats. Looks like quit the rig.

Attention all Boaters -----
The
Missouri State Water Patrol would like to remind boat operators that they can
begin preparing for this year's boating season early. With the
weather warming up, boating season is just around the corner. There will
not be very many opportunities left to attend a boater safety education
course in the St. Louis and St. Charles area. Boating traffic will continue
to grow and all officers will be busy patrolling the waterways. If
you have any questions regarding education or have a general boating question, please
visit www.MSWP.DPS.MO.GOV or
email us at BoatInfo@mswp.dps.mo.gov.
If
it is necessary for you to get certified, you have several options. You can
take the online course, order the home study course, or take one of our
classroom courses listed on our website. Call 1-800-830-2268 for ordering a
Missouri home study course. You may also get a certification card from any
other state's NASBLA approved course; however, you will be required to have
proof of successful completion of the course and a photo ID with you while you
are operating the boat
Just
a refresher of the law,
Missouri's mandatory Boater Safety Education law that went into effect on
January 1, 2005, required all Missouri boat operators born after January 1,
1984, to get a boater safety certification card before operating boats on the
lakes of this state. This date of birth requirement does not change for next
year. If you have a boat operator who was born after that date, they must have
successfully completed a boater safety certification course and have their
certification card with them before they can operate a vessel. It should be
noted a personal watercraft (PWC) is considered a vessel. Additionally,
beginning January 1, 2006, all non-resident boat operators born after January
1, 1984, will be required to have successfully completed a National
Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved course and
carry proof of completion with them when operating the boat.

A lot of water has flowed pass the confluence of the two rivers since this
picture was taken and a few good things have come to be that make
this picture special. The Grafton Ferry is now a sponsor of
RiverBills.com, we now have a monthly Grafton Ferry Picture Contest and I have

Missouri River.
Devin
wrote in his e-mail:
This
is a shot of the Labadie Power Plant
(Ameren) on the
Missouri River
.
Picture
taken from
Klondike
Park
boat ramp in
Saint Charles
County
just down river from
Augusta
.
Picture
was taken in January of this year.
We
run it (the Missouri River) mostly from
Washington
up to the Gasconade and
Osage
Rivers
.
Once
a year (8-9 boats) we put in at
Washington
and run up to
Alton
. We put in Saturday morning and pull out Sunday evening back at
Washington
. Last year we camped out on the island below
Iowa
Island.

Last
Year's River Picture On This Day ------
What the heck was the picture on RiverBills.com last year on this day ?
It was a picture of a bench with a river view.   This picture was taken at the Lincoln Shields Recreation Area on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River, across from Alton, IL.   Looks like a fine place to spend some time "watching the river flow".   The bluffs near Alton and the River Road can be seen in the distance.
