Nun buoys have been reported missing in the vicinity of
Mile 256.9 and Mile 256.5. Mariners are urged to exercise
caution in the area.

183.2 - BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier of the center span. Work barges
should not encroach more than 65 feet into the navigation
channel, at any time. For work barge locations, mariners are
encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V KATHERINE
OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at (217)
248-9077

1.0 - FIREWORKS DISPLAYS
Fireworks displays will be held in the vicinity of Mile
1.0, along the shoreline, on June 3, 10, 17, 24, 2021, July
8, 15, 22, 29, 2021, August 5, 12, 19, 26, 2021 and
September 2, 9, 2021, from 9:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., each
day. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area,
during event periods

Some Highlights:
Thursday night from June 3 to Sept. 9 with the exception of
Thursday, July 1.
The dazzling light show in Alton will launch from the
parking lot at Landmarks and Henry Streets on the city’s
riverfront. The Grafton show will launch from Grafton
Lighthouse Park.
The Grafton Ferry has added Thursday to its schedule to help
encourage people to enjoy the Grafton fireworks. A farmers
market will take place in Grafton on Thursdays and the
Grafton Music in the Park concert series also takes place
Thursday evenings. Both of those events precede the
fireworks shows

The Annual Paddlefest Is Returning To
Riverlands.........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers , Rivers
Project Office and the Mississippi River Water Trail Association
have teamed up to host the annual Paddlefest, which will be
returning to Ellis Bay in the Riverlands Migratory Bird
Sanctuary on June 12th.
Josh Schulte, a Natural Resources Specialist
with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Recreation Team Lead
for the Rivers Project, says that the Paddle Festival is a great
way to experience kayaking in Ellis Bay.
Schulte adds that the Mississippi River Water
Trail Association strives to teach everyone about paddle safety,
the safe usage of paddles, how to use paddles, proper life
jacket fitting, how to maneuver a kayak and much more related to
paddling along the Mississippi River........

Boaters Shooting For The World's
Largest Boat Parade........
This weekend, organizers are hoping to set a
new Guinness World Record for the largest boat parade.
Currently, the world record longest boat parade stands at 1,180
boats.
Participants are required to register prior
to the parade starting on June 12, 2021. There is a $50 entry
fee, and additional information will be sent to every
participant before Saturday morning. Each entry will receive a
flag to hang on your boat and one T-Shirt.
After the parade is over, an adjudicator will
make the final count and announce the precise number of boats
that participated in the parade. Organizers state that the
funds raised from this event will help support Missouri's
largest fireworks display........

Park Board To Solicit Marina
Privatization Proposals Again.........
On Wednesday, the Quincy Park Board
decided that they would be seeking proposals to privatize
the Art Keller Marina located on Quinsippi Island for a
second time.
The Park DIstrict had sought
privatization proposals back in January, but did not receive
and responses. City Commissioners agreed to seek
privatization proposals after boat slip rentals fell below
90 back in 2011.
The marina had also posted a loss of
$11,748 during 2020, with a projected loss of $30,419 in
2021, which will force the Park DIstrict to dip into their
corporate funding........

Dock Hop 2021 was amazing! Pictured are the great folks of
Grafton Harbor with the families and friends.
Grafton’s newly elected Mayor ~ Mayor Mike Morrow and his family
also enjoyed the Dock Hop with us.
It was the perfect evening. Parties from Around the World was
our theme this year. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, Mardi
Gras, Oktoberfest, Super Bowl and the Brazilian Carnival. There
was so much great food and cold cocktails. We can’t wait until
next year!!

Nun buoys have been reported missing in the vicinity of
Mile 256.9 and Mile 256.5. Mariners are urged to exercise
caution in the area.

183.2 - BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier of the center span. Work barges
should not encroach more than 65 feet into the navigation
channel, at any time. For work barge locations, mariners are
encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V KATHERINE
OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at (217)
248-9077

1.0 - FIREWORKS DISPLAYS
Fireworks displays will be held in the vicinity of Mile
1.0, along the shoreline, on June 3, 10, 17, 24, 2021, July

September 2, 9, 2021, from 9:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., each
day. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area,

safety program. The act required boats to be equipped with navigation

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Man Charged With Stealing From
The Corps........
43 year old Louis P. Campbell of
Granite City, Illinois is facing charges after allegedly
stealing more than $10,000 worth of property belonging to the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Campbell was charged on June 7th
with theft over $10,000 in criminal damage to government
supported property, which are both Class 2 felonies. THe case
was presented by the Granite City Police Department.
Court documents allege that on June
4th, Campbell took risers, pipes and hydraulic oil valued
between $10,000 and $100,000 from the Army Corps of Engineers.
Campbell also allegedly damaged a fence surrounding property in
the 400 block of Old Rock Road........

Freshly Renovated
Campground Busy........
Following more than a year's
worth of renovations, the campgrounds at Pere Marquette
State Park is seeing quite a bit of traffic. THe campground
had been shut down since February 1, 2020.
The renovation projects included
making updates to the electrical system, water lines,
campsite pads and making repairs to the roadways. According
to Chris Hespin, park superintendent , crews also added a
new black and gray water dump station and filling station
and renovated the old........

2021 May Eclipse 2020........
When comparing boat sales during April 2020
and April 2021, the numbers would be skewed, because of the
widespread boat manufacturer shutdown due to the COVID-19
outbreak.
THe preliminary data from Statistical Surveys
says that the boat buying trend that began in the late spring
and early summer of 2020 has shown no signs of slowing down, and
in fact, seems to be increasing.
During April, registrations were up 86
percent in the main powerboat categories and 47 percent on a
year-over-year basis in those segments. In all categories,
registrations were up by 81 percent to 26,795 units........

Nun buoys have been reported missing in the vicinity of
Mile 256.9 and Mile 256.5. Mariners are urged to exercise
caution in the area.

183.2 - BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier of the center span. Work barges
should not encroach more than 65 feet into the navigation
channel, at any time. For work barge locations, mariners are
encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V KATHERINE
OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at (217)
248-9077

A HEARTFELT “THANK YOU” to everyone who I saw today who
cheered me on along the side of the river!! It was a HUGE
motivation!!💙

Most of the day I paddled in the rain with thunder being
heard and some lightning off in the distance ... however, as
I entered lock # 14 - the Lock Operator warn me that 10
miles down at lock & Dam 15, they were experiencing a severe
electrical storm.
****
After discussing the situation with Marv Kuziel, we decided
it would be safer to pull off early and not paddle into the
electrical lightening storm.
****
Several people saw that I had stopped below the dam and
drove out to meet Marv and I..
Mike took us out to dinner and then let us shower at his
home!
It was a great day with lots of wonderful people

Illinois Conservation Police Stepping
Up Patrols.........
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources
states that more boats are expected to on Illinois waterways
this summer than ever before, and the Conservation Police Will
be prepared to step up patrols.
According to Sergeant Phil Wire of the IDNR
Conservation Police, they will be out on the water trying to
keep people safe. He adds that there are too many distractions
out on he water, such as paddle craft and jet skis, which are
easy enough to be overlooked by inattentive boaters.
Wire states that the boaters they encounter
who are intoxicates will be arrested. He suggests appointing a
designated helmsman to remain sober and operate the boat........

New Dates Announced For St. Louis
Boat And Sportshow........
Officials announced that there are new
dates for the 2022 Progressive Insurance St. Louis Boat &
Sportshow, presented by Discover Boating. The show was
originally scheduled for January 13 - 16. It is now
scheduled for February 3 - 6, 2022.
THe scheduling change was to accommodate
another event at the America's Center Convention Complex.
Next week, renewal packages will be sent out to exhibitors
for the 2022 boat and sportshow. Plans for next year's show
will be released soon........

Alton Amphitheater Opened Friday....
Much More Coming Up.....
On Friday, June 4th, the Liberty Bank Alton
Amphitheater near the Alton Marina opened with the band Boogie
Chyld and two food trucks as part of their Summer Social Series.
Robert Stephan with the Liberty Bank Alton
Amphitheater said that they are pleased to welcome people back
to the Amphitheater for the first time in twenty months. This
was the first of five Summer Social events, which are free
events featuring live music, food and drinks.
Stephan adds that they are also making
investments to improve the area around the Amphitheater,
including the addition of 20 more picnic tables with umbrellas,
Adirondack chairs and tables, and the Amphitheater fountain will
be operational soon.........

Lake Of The Ozarks
8 Year Old Died After Being Struck
By A Propeller........
The Missouri State Highway Patrol
reported that on Saturday, an 8 year old Waynesville,
Missouri boy was killed after being struck by a boat
propeller on the Lake of the Ozarks.
Reportedly, the boy was exiting the rear
of the boat when he was struck by the propeller. His 34
year old father was operating the 2017 Playcraft Tritoon on
the Glaize Arm when the accident occurred.
THe boy was pronounced dead by the Camden
County medical examiner, and his body was taken to a funeral
home on Camdenton. His name had not been released as of
Monday.........

Lake Barkley Near Kuttawa, Kentucky
More Than 180 Boats Registered For Kuttawa
Cannonball Run.........
Last weekend, more than 180 boats were signed
up to participate in the fifth annual Kuttawa Cannonball Run on
Lake Barkley near Kuttawa, Kentucky, making it one of four best
attended go-fast boating events in 2021.
What makes the event turnout so significant
is that it isn't being held in the West Coast boating Mecca of
Lake Havasu of the storied Key West, Florida locales.
When asked what the draw is that took the
event from 140 boats last year to over 180 this year, Adam
Seraphine, owner of a canopied Outerlimits SV 40 said that it is
all about the people........

Missouri River Management
Lower Flows Expected Along The Mighty
Mo.......
Two years ago, flooding along the Missouri
River devastated portions of Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and
Missouri, but this year, officials are looking at what may be
one of the drier years along the river.
This year, considerably less water is
expected to drain into the Missouri River because of dry
conditions and the below normal snowpack levels. On Thursday,
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that their forecast
from last month had not changed.
The Corps estimates that 17.9 million acre
feet of water will flow into the Missouri River this year, which
is only about 69 percent of the average 25.8 million acre feet.
This will rank 2021 as the 22nd driest in the Upper Missouri
River Basin since 1898........

Missouri Fishing News
Angler Caught Rare Albino Catfish........
According to a Facebook post from the
Missouri Department of Conservation, a Missouri man recently
caught and then released an albino blue catfish along the
Missouri River.
Kevin Markway shared a photo of himself
holding the fish with the MDC. Markway noted in the photo's
comment that he released the fish back into the river after the
photo was taken. MDC staff estimate the fish was 8 to 10 years
old.
Albino blue catfish, like other albino
animals, are rare. Albinism is a recessive trait and makes he
animal more noticeable to predators at a young age, leading to a
decrease in life expectancy for albino wildlife........

Mississippi River At Memphis, Tennessee
Reopening Date For Interstate 40 Bridge Still
Unknown........
Memphis officials still have no timeline for
reopening the closed Interstate 40 Bridge spanning the
Mississippi River. They do say that repairs will likely
continue through July.
The Hernando De Soto Bridge was completed in
1973, and has been closed since May 11th, when an inspector
spotted a large crack in a key beam supporting the span.
Clay Bright, the Tennessee Transportation
Commissioner stated that materials for the repair could arrive
by late June, and the huge custom-made parts would be installed
during July and possibly into August, shoring up the cracked
beam........

Recreation Not Red Tape Act
Introduced........
Recently, the Outdoor Recreational
Roundtable lent their support to Senator Ron Wyden and
Representative Blake Moore's reintroduced Recreation Not Red
Tape Act, which would reduce the obstacles for people to
recreate in , improve and prioritize the outdoors.
Jessica Turner, the executive director of
Outdoor Recreation Roundtable says that outdoor recreation
is a major driver in the nation's economy, adding $788
billion in economic output and supporting 52 million jobs.
Turner adds that as the outdoor
recreation industry outgrows in popularity and economic
impact, federal agencies need to update their methods to
provide sustainable and improved access to and
infrastructure on America's public lands and waters........

Formula 1 Boat Blows Over........
While Trolling The Internet.... We reeled in
a video showing some of the action during this weekend's Formula
1 race, where one of the boats blew over, partially coming
apart. It appears that the driver was O.K., as the driver was
able to open the vessel's canopy....

Fishing For Freedom Turnout The Largest
Ever........
Sunday is the final day for the Fishing for
Freedom event near Quincy, Illinois. This year marks the 10th
year for the event, which features plenty of fishing and outdoor
activities for active duty and Veteran "Warriors".
The event is held in a few locations,
including the Mississippi River, Mark Twain Lake as well as a
private property where participants that are unable to safely
fish on open water.
2021 is the sixth year that Fishing for
Freedom has headed out to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy
to help the home's residents participate in the event as
well.......

Lake Of The Ozarks
Race Boat Driver O.K. After Boat
Flipped Twice........
Amazingly, a race boat driver was uninjured
after his race boat flipped twice during Lake Race 2021. His
boat, however, did not fare too well the second time it flipped.
THe Missouri State Highway Patrol reports
that 22 year old Formula 1 boat driver Dylan Anderson of
Nashville, Tennessee escaped both incidents. the number 17 boat
was towed back to the pit area at Neon Taco after the first
incident, and crews removed debris from the water.
The second time the number 17 boat flipped,
it sank in the Lake of the Ozarks. THe only part saved from the
number 17 boat was the canopy. This is the first year Lake Race
has hosted Formula 1 racing........

Weekly Fireworks Start Off With A
Bang........
The weekly fireworks shows along the Alton
and Grafton riverfronts began this week and Alton's Mayor, David
Goins says that Thursday night's fireworks display went off
without a hitch.
On Thursday evening, fireworks were
simultaneously launched from Lighthouse Park on Grafton's
riverfront, and the parking lot at Henry and Landmarks Boulevard
near the Alton riverfront and the Alton Marina.
Goins said that it was nice to see families
spending quality time together in the wake of the COVID
outbreak. He added that even though it was a weeknight, many
visitors patronized area restaurants........

Meramec River Near Sullivan, Missouri
A 15 Year Old Drowned While At Meramec
Caverns........
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports
that Saturday afternoon, a 15 year old boy drowned while
swimming in the Meramec River at Meramec Caverns near Sullivan,
Missouri.
MSHP officials state that a 15 year old was
swimming near a beach at Meramec Caverns when he went underwater
and did not resurface. Bystanders say that emergency responders
spent 90 minutes searching for the boy,
The boy's body was recovered from the river
and was taken to a hospital, where hw was pronounced dead. This
is the third drowning for the St. Louis Region within the last
month........

Nun buoys have been reported missing in the vicinity of
Mile 256.9 and Mile 256.5. Mariners are urged to exercise
caution in the area.

183.2 - BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier of the center span. Work barges
should not encroach more than 65 feet into the navigation
channel, at any time. For work barge locations, mariners are
encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V KATHERINE
OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at (217)
248-9077

Amsterdam Testing Autonomous Electric
Boats........
Amsterdam has long used their canals for
transportation around town, but then came cars and trucks which
are now overwhelming the Dutch capitol's streets.
In order to relieve traffic congestion, Dutch
officials are looking back at the canals, where they are testing
small, fully autonomous boats to carry out minor tasks such as
ferrying passengers to collecting garbage.
During a recent demonstration, a 13 foot long
electric Roboat learned to navigate through traffic in
Amsterdam's canals, which are filled with private boats and
canal cruise ships full of tourists........

BRP Reports Strong First
Quarter........
Bombardier Recreational Products recently
released the results of their first quarter of fiscal 2022,
which ended on April 30, 2021. BRP saw a 47 percent increase on
revenue.
Revenue for the quarter rose by $477million
to $1.07 billion. BRP credits the increases to a considerably
stronger retail environment as compared to last year, which led
to increased sales in all divisions.
Gross profit was up considerably, posting an
increase in $131 million to $445 million. Net income for the
quarter increased by $388 million to $201.4 million, compared to
a $186,7 million loss during the first quarter of fiscal 2021.

Lower Mississippi River
How The Corps Fights River Bank
Erosion........
As the Mississippi River winds it's way
through the Heartland of America, it's banks are susceptible to
erosion, especially the lower reaches of the river, where there
are no river training structures to control the river's flow.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers fights this
erosion by spending six to seven months reinforcing the river
banks in vulnerable locations by sinking concrete mars from a
large piece of equipment known as a mat sinking unit.
The MSU places the sheets of concrete
mattresses along the riverbank to protect it from erosion and
sloughing caused by the river currents and turbulent water
churned up by flooding conditions........

Mississippi River At Memphis, Tennessee
TDOT Inspecting I-40 Span As Repair
Work Continues.........
On Thursday, the Tennessee Department of
Transportation posted a photo of inspectors checking out the
upper trusses of the Interstate 40 Bridge spanning the
Mississippi River at Memphis, Tennessee.
The bridge had been shut down for more than
three weeks after a fractured beam was discovered in early May.
Crews are working to make repairs, while inspectors are pouring
over the remainder of the bridge, making sure it is safe for
traffic to resume traveling across it.
What is not clear is the timeline for the
span to reopen to traffic. Officials state that it may be
several reeks before a reopening date can be determined.........

Mississippi River Near Quincy, Illinois
Fishing For Freedom Event This
Weekend........
Hundreds of boaters and anglers will be
heading to Quincy, Illinois as the Fishing for Freedom returns
after being on hiatus during 2020. Media coordinator for the
event, Adam Brocksieck says that they are excited to be back.
Brocksieck reports that the event reached the
maximum number of 300 "Warriors" - active and veteran Military
personnel. Some 200 boaters have pledged their time to take the
Warriors out onto the water.
The Fishing for Freedom event will take place
at a variety of locations, including the Mississippi River, Mark
Twain Lake, as well as a private lake for Warriors that can't
get onto the river for safety reasons.........

Fishing for Freedom
10th Annual Fishing For Freedom -
Quincy is a no entry fee bass, catfish, and crappie
tournament that pairs our Warriors (active Military and
Veterans) with our Boaters (professional anglers, avid
tournament fishermen, fishing guides, and local outdoorsmen)
for a fun day of fishing on our local fisheries. Fishing For
Freedom - Quincy cannot give back all the lost time away
from the great outdoors during deployment, but we can give
back a weekend. We do that by providing our Warriors with a
weekend full of entertainment and enjoyment of the great
outdoors with their fellow Veterans and active duty
personnel, as well as the general public. This event is
designed to provide our Warriors with events that range from
a fish fry, trapshooting, archery, live music, a Heroes
Banquet, and a day of fun tournament fishing on the Mighty
Mississippi River or Mark Twain Lake. We also have private
lake(s) where we take our Warriors who cannot easily fish
from a boat to ensure their safety and well-being

Correct Craft recently announced the
development and launch of their "Lake Cleanup Boat" which
vacuums waste and pollutants from waterways. Based on a hull
manufactured by Correct Craft subsidiary SeaArk.
The unique vessel in fitted with a vacuum
that collects pollutants concentrated in hard to reach areas,
such as the lakes in the communities surrounding Correct Craft's
facilities.
Correct Craft will also be making the vessel
available to others that wish to clean up waterways, and they
intend to provide additional models at a minimum of cost to
organizations interested in obtaining their own cleanup
boat.........

Boating Safety Standards
ABYC Releasing Largest Standards Manual
Ever........
THe American Boat & Yacht Council is
preparing to release their largest supplement ever of the
Standards and Technical Information Reports for Small Craft.
The supplement will be officially released on August 1, 2021,
but a special pre-order sale of the 2021-2022 manual will run
through June 18.
The ABYC is a not-for-profit organization
that develops the worldwide voluntary safety standards for the
design, construction, maintenance and repair of recreational
vessels.
The ABYC standards are continuously being
researched, developed and revised by mire than 400 volunteer
marine professionals participating in Project Technical
committees. The ABYC publishes their updated manual each year
in order to keep up with the latest trends and
technologies.........

Mile 256.9 and Mile 256.5. Mariners are urged to exercise
caution in the area.

183.2 - BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier
of the center span. Work barges should not encroach more
than 65 feet into the navigation channel, at any time. For
work barge locations,
mariners are encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V
KATHERINE OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at

Mississippi River At Grafton, Illinois
Grafton's Tourist Season Kicked Off
With A Bang.........
On Thursday nights this summer, Grafton will
be hosting Music in the Park, as well as a weekly 15 minute
fireworks show at 9:30 pm. The fireworks show will run through
September 9th, with the exception of July 1, due to other
fireworks shows for Independence Day.
Alton is also hosting Thursday night
fireworks displays that will go off simultaneously with the
Grafton fireworks show. Cory Jobe, President/CEO of the Great
Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau says creating the Thursday night
fireworks shows draws visitors into the region to enjoy
shopping, dining, and perhaps overnighting in the area.
Jobe adds that they are looking forward to a
solid summer travel season, and the Light Up the River Road
fireworks shows are another destination driver for the Riverbend
region.........

The Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater is primed
to host a series of free Summer Social Concerts, with the first
scheduled for Friday, June 4th. The concert will feature St.
Louis area favorite Boogie Chyld, as well as food from food
trucks, Farm Truk Food and Buzz's Hawaiian Grill.
The event will kick off at the Alton
Amphitheater, which is a short walk form the Alton Marina, at 6
pm. Live music will run until 9:30 pm. THere will be alcoholic
and soft drinks available for purchase and lawn games such as
cornhole and adult sized Jenga.
Concert attendees are requested to bring lawn
chairs, and are asked not to bring outside food or drinks,
however, unopened bottles of water are the exception........

The dazzling light show in Alton will launch from the
parking lot at Landmarks and Henry Streets on the city’s
riverfront. The Grafton show will launch from Grafton
Lighthouse Park.
The Grafton Ferry has added Thursday to its schedule to help
encourage people to enjoy the Grafton fireworks. A farmers
market will take place in Grafton on Thursdays and the
Grafton Music in the Park concert series also takes place

News Release.......
EMPHASIS: Powerboat Race At Lake Of The
Ozarks
Captain Corey J. Schoeneberg, commanding officer of Troop F,
would like to inform boaters of an offshore boat race event. The
race will take place on June 5, 2021, near Bagnell Dam on Lake
of the Ozarks. Powerboat testing will begin at 9 a.m. and the
event will start at 10 a.m. Boating traffic will be restricted
to no wake and idle speed from the dam to approximately the
4-mile marker of the main channel. The no wake, idle speed
restriction will be enforced approximately one hour prior to the
event start time and will continue to be enforced up to one hour
after the last race.
Every attempt will be made to minimize inconvenience to boaters
navigating near the race, but boaters should expect congestion
in the area. Troopers, as well as event volunteers, will be
located around the course and will assist boaters in locating
the designated areas for spectator anchoring. Spectators wishing
to anchor should anticipate needing enough anchor line for water
depth in excess of 100 feet.
Captain Schoeneberg urges boaters to use heightened caution
while exiting the area following the event due to conditions
caused by the heavy boat traffic and to report ALL impaired
operators to Troop F at 573-751-1000 or by dialing *55 on a
cellular phone.
Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have
on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good
judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets

According to Allison Rhanor, the new director
of the National Greta Rivers Museum , there is much more to a

Rhanor added that they try to present the
Mississippi river in a multi-faceted, holistic manner. If a

Mark Twain Lake
Woman Injured In Boating
Accident........
THe Missouri State Highway Patrol reports
that just after 3 pm Saturday afternoon, a woman sustained
serious injuries in a boating accident on Mark Twain Lake.
50 year old Rover D. Sherman was operating a
2008 Ebbtide open bow motorboat with the anchor down. As the
boat accelerated, the anchor was pulled free, surfaced and
struck an occupant in the boat.
56 year old Lisa R. Sherman was injured by
the flying anchor and was taken to University Hospital in
Columbia for treatment........

Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier
of the center span. Work barges should not encroach more
than 65 feet into the navigation channel, at any time. For
work barge locations,
mariners are encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V
KATHERINE OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at
(217) 248-9077

WATERWAY - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY
The following zones are in the high water watch phase in
accordance with the Illinois Waterway Action Plan Annex:
Zone 6 - Copperas (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.0),
Zone 5 – Havana (Mile 128.9 – Mile 102.0),
Zone 4 – Beardstown (Mile 101.9 – Mile 80.3) and
Zone 3 – Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0).
Mariners should exercise caution and minimize their wake in
all high water zones. The laying up on saturated levees is
prohibited. Mariners should be experienced in high water
conditions and avoid down-streaming operations. Mariners
should remain vigilant to an increase in debris
and maneuver appropriately. Be aware that a buildup of
debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take
appropriate action to prevent breakaways. Exercise caution
in all meeting situations, as swift currents may be present.
Navigational buoys may have been dragged off station,
so remain alert while transiting.
Recreational traffic
is discouraged.

National Marine Manufacturer's Association is preparing for the
return of the entire boat show lineup, which will start in
September.
THe pent up demand for live events and an
increased demand for boating, it will be very important to
elevate the boat show experience, expecially if the industry
expects to engage and retain the record number of new boaters
that entered the market during the pandemic.
Boat show exhibitors, stakeholders and
attendees should expect to see more show amenities, such as live
entertainment, food and beverages, an enhanced digital show
guides, expanded community involvement, increased educational
opportunities and much more.........

I-40 Bridge Re-Opening Schedule To Be
Released........
The Tennessee Department of Transportation
recently announced that there will be several teams on the
Interstate 40 bridge inspecting, weld testing, cleaning drains
and performing routine maintenance as they wrap up Phase I of
the span's repairs.
Now, crews from both the Tennessee and
Arkansas DOTs are focusing on Phase II repairs. They agreed to
go with the plan that adds several steel plates adjacent to the
damaged area, bypassing the fractured area and removing a
smaller section of the fractured member.
Officials say that this repair plan will
require considerably less fabrication time, which will in turn
get the bridge reopened two to three weeks sooner than
originally thought........

They Are
at It Again: Confusing and Ineffective Fuel Pump Warning Labels
Do Not Help Boaters Choose Safe Fuel
BoatUS says efforts to grow sales of higher blend 15%
ethanol fuels such as “Regular 88” and reduce or eliminate
warning labels are anti-consumer
 SPRINGFIELD,
Va., June 1, 2021 – Efforts by the ethanol industry to create a
new federal rule that would weaken or eliminate important
warning labels designed to prevent boaters and consumers from
misfueling with prohibited higher-ethanol fuels at roadside gas
pumps has Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS)
concerned. The national recreational boating advocacy, services
and safety group recently co-signed a letter to EPA
Administrator Elizabeth Dermott addressing the proposed “E15
Fuel Dispenser Labeling and Compatibility With Underground
Storage Tanks” legislation (EPA-HW-OAR-202-0448) and urging the
federal regulator to side with consumers on its Misfueling
Mitigation Program (MMP) to ensure transparency in the sale of
fuel to consumers.
“Ethanol manufacturers are pushing to blend more ethanol into
the nation’s fuel supply. To accomplish that, consumers are not
being fully informed at the roadside pump about the type of fuel
going into their boats’ gas tanks,” said BoatUS Manager of
Government Affairs David Kennedy. “New marketing schemes to
brand these prohibited 15% ethanol fuels as ‘regular 88,’
promoting them as a low-cost alternative and, at the same time,
attempting to drive federal rulemaking efforts to reduce and
weaken warning labels at the pump is an anti-consumer
one-two-three punch that should not be tolerated.”
The proposed rulemaking provides no new data on a theoretical
basis to support the proposals to either decrease the stringency
of the existing E15 warning label or eliminate it altogether. A
2020 Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) poll shows that
only about one in five consumers know that “regular 88” — or 88
octane fuel — has more ethanol (15%) in it than 87 octane (10%
ethanol) fuel.
Use of ethanol fuel blends with more than 10% ethanol, such as
“regular 88,” in recreational boat engines, motorcycles,
off-road vehicles and power equipment is prohibited by federal
law. E15 fuels have been proven to damage engines and fuel
systems, and its use in a marine engine voids the warranty.
Consumers have indicated the need for a better, more effective
higher-blend ethanol fuel warning label design as well as more
prominent placement of the warning label on the pump. A recent
national poll shows that just 18.25% of consumers think the
current E15 label used at gas pumps across the country is very
effective for warning that E15 is hazardous to certain types of
engines.
EPA has also worked to broaden the availability of E15 fuel in
the U.S., including most recently with the 2019 repeal of
summertime restrictions on its sale. These restrictions were
originally implemented years ago to address concerns over the
higher ethanol fuel’s contribution to ground level ozone (smog)
on hot days.
“Visit a local gas station dispensing higher ethanol fuels and
look for the warning label on the pump,” added Kennedy. “It’s
often hidden or buried along with a mountain of promotional
signage. EPA should help consumers make the right fuel choice,
and efforts to weaken the Misfueling Mitigation Program, such as
stripping away label elements that indicate a warning message or
exclude mention of 15% ethanol altogether, only accommodate the
interests of ethanol producers and harm boaters.

Lake Of The Ozarks
Man Injured After Falling From A PWC........
On Monday, May 31, a 60 year old man was
injured after being ejected from a personal watercraft at the
38.3 Mile Marker of the Lake of the Ozarks.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports
that 60 year old Michael Harrison was piloting a 2019 Yamaha
personal watercraft at the 38,.3 Mile Marker, when he turned
hard left to avoid an oncoming vessel and was ejected.
Harrison suffered moderate injuries and was
transported to the Lake Regional Hospital for treatment. The
PWC was undamaged........

Merchants Railroad Bridge; Work barges continue excavating
around both left and right descending navigation piers and
the right descending pier
of the center span. Work barges should not encroach more
than 65 feet into the navigation channel, at any time. For
work barge locations,
mariners are encouraged to contact the onsite work boat M/V
KATHERINE OHARA via VHF-FM Channel 6 or 16 or by phone at

WATERWAY - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY
The following zones are in the high water watch phase in
accordance with the Illinois Waterway Action Plan Annex:
Zone 6 - Copperas (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.0),
Zone 5 – Havana (Mile 128.9 – Mile 102.0),
Zone 4 – Beardstown (Mile 101.9 – Mile 80.3) and
Zone 3 – Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0).
Mariners should exercise caution and minimize their wake in
all high water zones. The laying up on saturated levees is
prohibited. Mariners should be experienced in high water
conditions and avoid down-streaming operations. Mariners
should remain vigilant to an increase in debris
and maneuver appropriately. Be aware that a buildup of
debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take
appropriate action to prevent breakaways. Exercise caution
in all meeting situations, as swift currents may be present.
Navigational buoys may have been dragged off station,
so remain alert while transiting.
Recreational traffic
is discouraged.

On June 1, Bob Bellingham put his kayak into the Missouri River at Three
Forks, Montana to begin a 2,341 mile expedition to St. Louis.
The idea for the journey came while Bellingham was working in his office in
Perth, Australia. Bellingham stated that there has to be a better life, and
he found it down river.
Bellingham added that although one has to be happy by yourself on a trip
like this one, he has found that the people he meets along the river are the
best part of the journey........

The dazzling light show in Alton will launch from the
parking lot at Landmarks and Henry Streets on the city’s
riverfront. The Grafton show will launch from Grafton
Lighthouse Park.
The Grafton Ferry has added Thursday to its schedule to help
encourage people to enjoy the Grafton fireworks. A farmers
market will take place in Grafton on Thursdays and the
Grafton Music in the Park concert series also takes place
Thursday evenings. Both of those events precede the
fireworks shows

Hosting First Public Event Since
Outbreak Began........
The National Great Rivers Research and
Education Center recently announced that they would be hosting
their first public event since the COVID-19 outbreak shutdown.
Neighbor Nights is scheduled for June 15th
and will also be an in-person meeting with a ZOOM chapter
session as an available option. The NGRREC is teaming with SIUE
during this event to discuss security, soil management and much
more.
Neighbor Nights will be held on Tuesday, June
15th. The doors will open at 6 pm for a tour of the facility.
The in-person and ZOOM presentations will begin at 7pm........

Mississippi River At Hannibal, Missouri
Parks Department Looking At Purchasing
A Dredge........
The Hannibal Parks Department has made the
decision to purchase their own dredge in order to keep the new
marina accessible to boaters. Before they lay out the funding
for the dredge, they have some other decisions to make.
Andy Dorian, the city's director of central
services says that they must decide if they want to rent the
dredge the first year to guarantee it is what they need. The
rental fee is $15,000, which would be applied towards the
purchase price.
Another decision that must be made is the
size of dredge that Hannibal will be purchasing. Dorian says
that the differences in the dredges are the size of the cutter
head, the size of the discharge pipe and the amount of
horsepower........

Missouri River Near Kansas City,
Missouri
Two Rescued After Jon Boat
Capsized........
Saturday morning, two boaters were rescued
from the Missouri River near the Bond Bridge in Kansas City,
Missouri. Fire and Rescue teams were called out after their jon
boat capsized just after 7 am.
A kayaker in the area assisted the boaters
until help arrived. Fire and Rescue crews along the bank and in
a boat were able to get rescue ropes to the two men in the
river.
The boaters were rescued near the Isle of
Capri Casino after spending about twenty minutes in the water.
One of the boaters was transported to the hospital for
treatment........

Lake Of The Ozarks
A Powerboat Sank At The Lake This
Weekend.........
On Saturday, a go-fast boat got rather soggy
when it sank at a dock along the Lake of the Ozarks. The
Missouri State Highway Patrol did not release many details,
however, they did confirm that there were no injuries.
The Nor-Tech catamaran was mostly submerged
adjacent to a dock near the shoreline........
