RiverBill,
Here is a pic of the Living Lands and Water barge, tug and a

Also a pic of the new 40+ foot flag pole that will be going up
on Duck Blind Island soon.
Also thanks to Dave for correcting my name for Piasa island
(Scotch Jimmy). I heard it was a real party island back in the

The Delta Queen
Legislators Moving On
Delta Queen Exemption........
A group of
legislators recently included a provision into a U.S. Coast
Guard authorization bill that would allow the Delta Queen
to operate as an overnight cruise vessel, despite official
warnings that doing so would create a floating fire hazard.
On Wednesday, the
Senate was four votes short of proceeding with the authorization
legislation. The Delta Queen issue is not expected to
die with the authorization bill.
In a short interview,
Missouri Senator Roy Blunt stated that he and Missouri Senator
Claire McCaskill authored the exemption provision. Blunt said
that he would like for the Delta Queen to resume cruising
again and to be based south of St. Louis, however, the exemption
is needed to allow the steamboat to operate once again........

5
Things Your Marine Surveyor Wants You to Know
ALEXANDRIA,
Va., April 20, 2018 – For many people, buying a boat is the
second largest purchase they will make in their lifetime, and at
the center of this process is your friendly marine surveyor.
Ensuring that you know everything you possibly can about a used
boat (and even some new boats) is a smart move. If you catch
issues before taking the deal, you have the option of
renegotiating the price or seeing that the faults are corrected.
Here are five things Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS)-accredited
marine surveyor and BoatUS Magazine Associate Editor Mark Corke
advises every boater should know this spring buying season.
1. Surveys generally cost around $20 to $22 per foot, and it
could be some of the best money ever spent. Most surveyors have
a set fee based on the size and type of boat and the type of
survey. A “condition and value” survey is most common for boat
purchases. Be wary of “light” or abbreviated surveys that help
neither the buyer nor seller and often won’t be accepted by
banks or insurance companies. Hiring a local surveyor helps to
avoid travel costs, and surveyors typically won’t send a survey
report until they get paid.
2. Don’t choose a surveyor recommended by the seller or his/her
broker. The surveyor works for you and you only. Just like you
would not select a home surveyor recommended by the seller, find
your own marine surveyor. If friends or your marina can’t
recommend one, go to BoatUS.com/Insurance-Survey. Keep in mind
that a survey is only good for a specific time period. Old
surveys should be viewed as unreliable; sellers sometimes try to
pass off old information that doesn’t reflect the boat’s
condition today.
3. Prepare the boat. Before the surveyor arrives on the day of
the survey, empty out any lockers or storage areas with access
to mechanical parts or machinery. This will make things go much
smoother and helps achieve a thorough review.
4. Don’t hover, and don’t bring friends or guests on the sea
trial. Most surveyors encourage buyers to be at the survey to
have an open dialog, but give the surveyor space and time to do
the job and don’t bring any unnecessary family members or
guests. It’s not a celebratory boat ride.
5. Use your surveyor to the fullest. Surveyors appreciate you
understanding the survey report and will enjoy a conversation to
discuss. Keep in mind that it’s their job to bring you all the
news, including the good and the not so good. They appreciate
sharing their knowledge to help you make informed buying
decisions, so take advantage of the time offered to you.
For additional help with buying a boat, go to the free online
BoatUS Boat Buyers Toolbox at BoatUS.com/Buyer.

Missouri Fishing News
MDC, Alligator Gar
Featured On Animal Planet Show.........
At 8 pm on Sunday,
Animal Planet's Jeremy Wade's Mighty Rivers will be
featuring the alligator gar and the Missouri Department of
Conservation's efforts at restoring their population in
Missouri's waterways.
The segment will look
at the restocking of the alligator gar and why they are
important and beneficial to the state's waters. DOC fisheries
regional supervisor Christopher Kennedy says that the show will
focus on restoration efforts, their role in the habitat, why
they are beneficial to humans and why they are not around
anymore.
Kennedy report that
the MDC began considering restoring the alligator gar in
Missouri waters back in 1999. At first, the effort was met with
a considerable amount of scrutiny by fishermen, members of the
public and even scientists. The MDC oversaw a great deal of
research that debunked the myths surrounding the alligator
gar........

Calling All Boaters
We need your
support and action to mobilize and save the Delta Queen.
SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN ....4-13-18 update
The vote we have been seeking appears to be moving forward next
week. In speaking to the house transportation and infrastructure
staff it was indicated the house would “work with the senate”
regarding the DQ language if it was part of the coast guard
authorization bill [ S1129]. In checking S1129 the Delta Queen
language that was originally passed as S89 is not in the current
version of the bill.
So, team we need to let the senate committee “commerce, science
and transportation” know that we the people want the S89
language added to S1129. The committee chair is Sen John Thune
from Alaska. We can call bill sponsors, professional staff and
the two Missouri senators that sponsored the original S89 bill
to make sure they do all they can to get the S89 language added.
Timing is critical Sen Thune has told the press the bill will be
voted on next week. The added language could be a floor
amendment. We could be celebrating next week.
