OPENING FRIDAY, May 1st !
Wow what a year!
We are excited to get back to work. After careful thought
and prayer we are opening the Boathouse The Boathouse Restaurant and deck will remain closed until we are allowed to reopen our doors. We will be practicing social distancing , cooking and serving masked and gloved. The Boathouse is honoring all front line workers who have sacrificed so much during the pandemic with 25% off all orders . We are starting small, menu and beverages we will post on Friday April 24. Of course Pizzas are back. We are planning a great first weekend ( within the law) . Courtesy docks are ONLY for Boathouse customers. NO pickup drop off . We are anticipating the Boathouse Fuel Dock opening on May 15 for all your boating needs. This is new for all of us let’s be kind to one another. We wish we could hug everyone, not yet. ❤️ If you are in the industry and cannot feed yourself or you family please message, we will do all we can to help in these difficult times.

Please note that we have one person in our office working and taking phone calls at this time. Our front door is locked, but our ramp is open. Please leave your ramping payment in the box located at the ramp. Our gas dock is also open during normal business hours.

can get it for you and arrange how you can pick it up.
Because of the size of our shops we feel confident
that we are staying at least 6 feet apart from one another
so please be assured we are continuing to work on all of our
scheduled service work. At this time we are still taking
orders for service work and would be happy to arrange drop
off times for your boat.

Illinois River At Grafton, Illinois Some State Parks Reopening.... Pere Marquette Remains Closed....
On Friday, some of Illinois' state parks will be reopening, however, Pere Marquette State Park will remain closed. Horseshoe Lake State Park will remain closed to the public as well.
According to Rachel Torbert, the deputy director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the parks selected to reopen provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities, with the acreage to allow for social distancing, providing necessary restroom and handwashing facilities, and adequate on site staff to guarantee visitor safety.
The Illinois state sites opening on Friday include:
○ Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area in
Carlyle. ○ Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis.

Missouri Department Of Natural Resources Missouri State Parks Beginning Phase One Of Resuming Normal Operations........
The Missouri State Parks division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has announced the commencement of phase one of a phased plan for resuming normal park operations.
The majority of the Missouri state parks and historical sites have remained open for day use, however, Missouri State Parks had instituted a variety of measures intended to maintain the required social distancing protocols.
Missouri State Parks will implement the following measures as part of phase one of the resumption of normal operations:
○ On May 4, concession-operated lodging,
dining, marina and retail operations will begin reopening at the
discretion of the individual concessionaires and following
Governor Parson’s recommended guidelines.

Lake Of The Ozarks LOTO Restaurant Delivering Food Via Zipline........
During the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent closures, some restaurants at the Lake of the Ozarks have begun to offer curbside or even dockside service. One LOTO restaurant, perched atop a bluff has come up with a novel solution to this less than ideal situation.
Paradise Tropical Restaurant & Bar has introduced their zipline service, available 7 days a week: "Lakefront dinner descending from Paradise".
Richard Enyart, Paradise's head of maintenance, came up with the whimsical idea as a joke. Restaurants were trying to figure out ways to provide dockside service, so Enyart suggested using a zipline. 2 days later, it was operational........

Mississippi River At Rock Island, Illinois A Look Back At The Day The Mississippi River Broke The Record Of 1993........
History was made on May 2, 2019, as the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities rose dramatically following heavy rainfall, which officially pushed the river level over the previous all-time record of 22.63 feet, set on July 9, 1993.
As of 12:20 pm on May 2, 2019, the Mississippi River rose to 22.64 feet on the Rock Island gauge. Stormtrack 8 Meteorologist Eric Sorensen says that this flooding differs from the Greta Flood of 1993 in that much of what was flowing through the region is from record snowfall in Minnesotan and Wisconsin, combined with heavy spring rainfall over Illinois and Iowa........

Wow what a year!
We are excited to get back to work. After careful thought
and prayer we are opening the Boathouse The Boathouse Restaurant and deck will remain closed until we are allowed to reopen our doors. We will be practicing social distancing , cooking and serving masked and gloved. The Boathouse is honoring all front line workers who have sacrificed so much during the pandemic with 25% off all orders . We are starting small, menu and beverages we will post on Friday April 24. Of course Pizzas are back. We are planning a great first weekend ( within the law) . Courtesy docks are ONLY for Boathouse customers. NO pickup drop off . We are anticipating the Boathouse Fuel Dock opening on May 15 for all your boating needs. This is new for all of us let’s be kind to one another. River Flooding Mitigation Trends Leading Towards Natural Flood Controls........
Across the U.S., there are some communities taking a more natural approach towards preventing the types of flooding that has devastated the region in recent years.
As the flooding seems to be occurring more often, the system of levees and walls that keep rivers like the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers in check have come under greater stress.
The emerging idea is to allow the rivers to behave in a more natural way, such as reverting to wetlands, rather than attempt to corral the rivers........

More Flood Mitigation Beleaguered By Flooding, River Communities Trying New Solutions........
At one time, weekend cottages lined the Meramec River in suburban Arnold, Missouri. Over the years, flooding had taken it's toll, leaving behind crumbling foundations, with the region slowly becoming reclaimed by nature.
Instead of constructing levees to protect the properties, the City of Arnold utilized federal and local tax dollars to buy out hundreds of homeowners so that the land could revert to wetlands which absorb the overflow waters.
In 2019, those wetlands helped Arnold avoid major damage when the Mississippi River rose to it's second highest recorded levels........

Mississippi River At Grafton, Illinois Grafton Mayor Appeals Stay Home Order Extension........
As Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker's stay at home mandate trudges towards another month, the Mayor of Grafton has joined an increasing number of legislators calling on the state to take a more regionalized approach.
Grafton's economy is driven by tourism, and Mayor Rick Eberlin says that there is not much revenue coming in at this time, and that is the reason he is calling on the Governor to change his policy.
While there are a small number of restaurants still open and offering carry-out or curbsite delivery, Eberlin says that thereis not much business being done within the city.........

Boat Manufacturer Smoker Craft Resumed Production........
Smoker Craft, Inc., manufacturer of aluminum, fiberglass and pontoon boats sold under the Smoker Craft, Starcraft, Sylvan and SunChaser brands, resumed limited production on Monday, and will resume full production on Monday, May 4.
The resumption of production has ended a five week shutdown in compliance with Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb's executive order for Indiana residents to remain at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senior vice president of marketing and corporate development, Peter Barrett says that Smoker Craft Inc. counts the health and welfare of their staff, dealers and partners as their top priority, and will implement a carefully phased return to full production under guidance of health and safety protocols........

Upper Mississippi River Coast Guard Warns Against Illegal Passenger Vessel Operations........
The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River has issued a warning to the public to avoid unlawful passenger vessel operations.
A recent Coast Guard bulletin stated that there are continuing reports of illegal commercial vessel services, including water taxis, excursion vessels and transportation services reserved on-line via apps at popular tourist locations.
The Coast Guard bulleting defines unlawful operations as including, but not limited to:
○ Charter services that carry “passenger(s) for hire”
without a valid Coast Guard issued merchant mariner’s credential suitable
for the vessel’s service. “Passenger for hire” is defined as someone who
cannot participate in the voyage without paying or contributing something.

Mississippi River At New Orleans, Louisiana All Bonnet Carre Spillway Bays To Close By Friday........
On Monday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported that all bays of the Bonnet Carre Spillway structure should be closed by Friday, since the Mississippi River at New Orleans continues to fall.
On Friday, the Corps started closing 10 bays a day or the remaining 80 open bays. The closure will mean that the spillway had been open for just under a month.
The Bonnet Carre Spillway was opened on April 3rd for an unprecedented sixth time over the past decade, as floodwaters from the Upper Mississippi and Ohio Rivers threatened to flow past New Orleans........

Wow what a year!
We are excited to get back to work. After careful thought
and prayer we are opening the Boathouse The Boathouse Restaurant and deck will remain closed until we are allowed to reopen our doors. We will be practicing social distancing , cooking and serving masked and gloved. The Boathouse is honoring all front line workers who have sacrificed so much during the pandemic with 25% off all orders . We are starting small, menu and beverages we will post on Friday April 24. Of course Pizzas are back. We are planning a great first weekend ( within the law) . Courtesy docks are ONLY for Boathouse customers. NO pickup drop off . We are anticipating the Boathouse Fuel Dock opening on May 15 for all your boating needs. This is new for all of us let’s be kind to one another. We wish we could hug everyone, not yet. ❤️ If you are in the industry and cannot feed yourself or you family please message, we will do all we can to help in these difficult times.

Illinois Boating Laws Law States Family Can Only Legally Be On Their Boat When It Is In Their Garage........
On Saturday, Illinois Governor J.D. Pritzker said that social distancing restricts boaters from having more than two people aboard a boat at a time.
The ruling means that a family of four or five, a husband, wife and kids may not all be on the boat at the same time, but only two at a time may be on the vessel.
Boaters are discussing their frustration with the rule. Monty Osborn of Granite City says that it doesn't make sense if there are more than two people in a boat. He adds that if family is involved, you all live in the same house anyway........

Mississippi River At Vicksburg, Mississippi Barges Allided With A Mississippi River Bridge........
On Monday afternoon, several barges allided with a bridge spanning the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The barges struck the Old U.S. 8- Bridge prior to scattering along the river.
The U.S. Coast Guard had recovery vessels working to secure the barges. Traffic on the adjacent Interstate 20 Bridge was not affected........

New York State Canal System The Canal System Will Not Reopen Until May 15th........
Officials have recently announced that the New York State Canal System will not be opened to navigational traffic until May 15th.
Late Thursday, the state Canal Corporation released a statement saying that they have suspended all non-essential construction and maintenance activities, so therefore, the canal system will not be open for through navigation of the locks until May 15.
The statement continues, stating that in order to support the canal's use as a prime recreational waterway, the Canal Corporation is considering operational options that would guarantee access to the canal system this season, even if only on a regional basis........

Ohio River Near Brookport, Illinois U.S. 45 Ohio River Bridge Closing For Walk-Through Inspection........
On Thursday morning, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet intends to close the U.S. 45 Ohio River "Brookport" Bridge for it's annual walk through inspection. The span is expected to be reopened by noon on Thursday.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet states that all Kentucky bridges are subjected to a detailed inspection every two years. The long-span river and lake bridges are subjected to an annual walk-through safety check as well.
The bridge carries a 15 ton weight limit because of the deck width. It is also restricted to vehicles no more than eight feet in width, and has a 9 foot, 6 inch height restriction........

Missouri River Near Chesterfield, Missouri Paddlers Rescued From The Missouri River Near Howell Island........
Early Wednesday morning, first responders were called out to the Missouri River near the Howell Island Conservation Area to rescue three kayakers.
Emergency responders report that one paddler was in the water and stuck on rocks between an island and the St. Louis County bank of the Missouri River near the conservation area. That paddler was able to get out of the kayak and onto the island.
Another of the three paddlers was able to call for help. All three kayakers were out hunting. They were all able to get out of the water safely, but were cold........

Illinois COVID-19 Response The State Will Reopen Some Recreation Areas........
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources recently announced that they will be reopening some select state parks, fish and wildlife areas, recreation areas and trails starting on May 1.
The visitors to the reopened sites will expected to comply with all social distancing guidelines, as well as other COVID-19 best practices.
The visitors to the reopened sites should bring in alcohol-based hand sanitizer, containing at least 60 percent alcohol and face covering........

Upper Mississippi River Dredge Goetz Preparing To Work The Upper Mississippi River........
The Dredge Goetz and her crew of over 50 men and women, support equipment and vessels are preparing to hit the Mississippi River over the coming week, were they will work to keep the river open for commerce.
The U.S. Army Corps or Engineers, St Paul District says that like many other endeavors, COVID-19 has altered many routines, and in order to keep the crews safe from infection the Corps has altered their procedures as well.
The crew will be required to follow social distancing protocols, as well as constantly disinfecting constantly and the kitchen staff are finalizing plans for food handling........

Mississippi River At Dubuque, Iowa Annual Great River Rumble Has Been Canceled........
An annual kayak and canoe trip along the Mississippi River has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Great River Rumble was originally scheduled to start on July 26th in Dubuque, Iowa.
The 92 mile paddling event typically takes place over a period of 7 days, and wraps up in LeClaire, Iowa. The event will be held in 2021.
Next year's Great River Rumble will start on August 1st in Dubuque and follow this year's scheduled route, with stops planned in Massey Marina, Iowa, Bellevue, Iowa, Savanna, Illinois, Thomson, Illinois, Clinton, Iowa, Rick Creek Campground and LeClaire........

Lake Of The Ozarks A Look Back At The Beginning Of The Lake........
On April 26, 1931, the Bagnell Dam was put into operation and started generating electricity for the first time. This was less than two years after crews began demolishing the town of Linn Creek and clearing the land that would become the Lake of the Ozarks.
The lake of the Ozarks officially opened to boat traffic on May 30, 1931. Some four months after that, crews inside the Bagnell Dam turned on the switches allowing current to flow from the dam's large hydroelectric generators. High tension power lines carried power to a large feeder station in Wellston and to modern-day Park Hills.
At the time, the Union Electric Light and Power Co's dam along the Osage River was hailed for it's ability to generate electricity. Along the lake, a few rough fishing camps popped up, however, it would take nearly three decades before the reservoir would become a busy summertime destination........

Wow what a year!
We are excited to get back to work. After careful thought
and prayer we are opening the Boathouse The Boathouse Restaurant and deck will remain closed until we are allowed to reopen our doors. We will be practicing social distancing , cooking and serving masked and gloved. The Boathouse is honoring all front line workers who have sacrificed so much during the pandemic with 25% off all orders . We are starting small, menu and beverages we will post on Friday April 24. Of course Pizzas are back. We are planning a great first weekend ( within the law) . Courtesy docks are ONLY for Boathouse customers. NO pickup drop off . We are anticipating the Boathouse Fuel Dock opening on May 15 for all your boating needs. This is new for all of us let’s be kind to one another. Added Sunday Flooding And The Pandemic COVID-19 Could Complicate Riverbend Risk During Flood Season........
Over the past several years, major flooding has almost become an annual occurrence around the United States, especially in the St. Louis region, where the Mississippi River has risen to four of it's nine highest recorded levels within the past decade.
The flooding outlook for this year is optimistic for the major waterways in the Midwest, but officials are warning that any major flooding event may be more dangerous if it happened during the ongoing pandemic.
According to David Stokes, head of the Great Rivers Habitat Alliance, a not-for-profit group that focuses on river management issues, if a flood occurs while the pandemic is still going around, it would be difficult to manage........

Added Sunday Mississippi River Shipping 35 BUNGE Grain Elevators On The Mississippi River Purchased By Japanese Company........
On Wednesday, the Zen-Noh Grain Corporation announced that they were purchasing 35 Bunge grain origination elevators along the Mississippi River. The transaction is awaiting regulatory approval.
ZGC's affiliate, CGB Enterprises, Inc. of Covington, Louisiana would operate the former Bunge facilities through it's subsidiary, Consolidated Grain and Barge.
So far, CGB operates over 100 grain origination facilities across the United States, which offer purchasing, storing, selling, shipping, financing and risk management services to farmers........

Added Sunday Illinois River At Henry, Illinois Middle River Marine Expanding Their Fleeting Area........
Mokena, Illinois based barging and towing company, Middle River Marine, was recently given the go-ahead to more than double the size of their fleeting areas at one of their most strategic transloading points along the Illinois River.
Middle River Marine received permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District for the addition of 100 fleeting spaces located along the left descending bank of the Illinois River between Mile Markers 197 and 198.2.
The construction work and placement of 29 deadman anchors, buoys and positioning signage had begun on April 3rd. The new fleeting spaces will be available later in April, and throughout the second quarter of 2020........

Added Sunday Mississippi River At Dorena, Missouri The Dorena-Hickman Ferry Has Reopened........
At 8 am Saturday morning, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry resumed service, after the Mississippi River floodwaters receded from the Kentucky landing in Hickman Harbor.
The Dorena-Hickman Ferry had been shut down since April 17th. The ferry typically shuts down when the Mississippi River rises above 44 feet on the Cairo gauge, putting floodwaters above the level where the ferry can safely operate.
After being closed just over a week, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry is now running on their normal summer schedule........

Riverbend Flooding Outlook Flood Risk Situation Has Improved........
The National Weather Service reports that below normal rainfall over the past two months has considerably reduced the risk of flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers in Missouri.
Earlier this year, forecasters had warned that the saturated ground and significant snowpack up north, there was a high risk of flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers and their tributaries.
The latest spring flooding outlook reveals that the snow has melted and rainfall has been below normal, especially over the past month. Hydrologist Mark Fuchs says that the flood probabilities are now considered to be normal for this time of year........

Kentucky Flooding Aftermath Counties Affected By Flooding Receive Disaster Declaration........
President Trump recently authorized assistance for a few counties in Kentucky that sustained damage from flooding, land and mudslides after severe storms that started February 3rd and continued through February 29, 2020.
The public assistance will be used to repair roads, bridges and other infrastructure in the affected counties. The disaster declaration will also provide flood mitigation funding.
The majority of the damage was done to highways, bridges, local and electrical infrastructure. Affected municipalities and certain non-profits can apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance........

Upper Mississippi River Corps Calling For Comments For Lake Pepin Plan........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District has proposed the construction of a habitat rehabilitation project near the head of Lake Pepin using material dredged from the Mississippi River.
The Corps recently released the draft Environmental Assessment of the project, and are accepting public comments through May 11.
The proposed project is intended to enhance and restore backwater habitats in Lake Pepin. It will include the construction of four peninsulas, overwintering dredged areas, water level management and shoreline protection features........

Mark Newlin, who hails out of Portage des Sioux, Mo spotted a pink barge yesterday afternoon. He didn't get a picture of it but sent us the following text message:
"Tug pushing big bargeline just passed. Everything normal except for one bright pink barge! It's heading towards Alton and pinky is on the mo side of line" Mark
Despite the efforts of multiple people, we were never able to capture a picture of her, but they are out there.

Message In A Bottle Update Mystery Of The Message In A Bottle Has Been Solved........
The mystery of who placed a message inside of a Dr. Pepper bottle and tossed it into the Big Piney River back in 1984 has been solved.
On Monday, 12 year old Jimmy Humphrey discovered the bottle along the banks of the Gasconade River near Hermann, Missouri. The note inside did not have a name, but rather an address, and Facebook sleuths turned up the person who threw the message in the bottle into the river.
41 year old John Thomas, a police officer in Willow Springs, Missouri says that he was a boy of 6 when he dropped the bottle in the river. His wife Krista spotted a story about the discovery on Facebook........

Boat Manufacturer Metal Shark Constructing Law Enforcement Vessels........
Boat builder Metal Shark recently reported that they are enjoying an increase in popularity amongst law enforcement agencies, as 20 additional law enforcement agencies have purchased over 35 welded aluminum law enforcement vessels either recently delivered, or currently in production.
In addition to many new builds, Metal Shark is constructing five custom Relentless center console patrol boats for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, while continuing to deliver 26 and 28 foot Relentless models foe the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Dean Jones, Metal Shark's vice president of sales for law enforcement, fire and specialty markets, says that their in house team of more than 60 engineers and naval architects and close to 2,000 vessel delivered to date, they offer law enforcement agencies a wide range of proven hulls and unmatched design expertise........

Boat Retailer MarineMax Released Their Second Quarter Results........
MarineMax, Inc. recently released the results for their fiscal second quarter, which ended on March 31, 2020. Revenue for the quarter from $303.6 million for the same quarter last year.
Same store sales for the fiscal second quarter of 2020 increased over 1 percent, on top of the 12 percent increase from last year.
Income prior to taxes was $6.7 million for the quarter, compared to $7.2 million for the same quarter last year. Net income was $5.1 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, compared to last year's net income of $5.3 million or $0.23 per diluted share.........

Yesteryears Picture On This Day in 2011...... was from Capt'n Joe Grygiel who hails out of Woodland Marina.Bill, We were out on the river yesterday floating to Grafton and saw this tug we thought looked funny, when we got closer we realizes that it was 3 tugs, the back one is pushing the front two and 6 barges, 3 full and 3 empty, must be heading up to get the grain. Also if you look in the second picture up close on the top deck, the deck hand started playing the air guitar with his mop.... Just another day on the river.... Gasconade River Near Hermann, Missouri Boy Finds Message In A Bottle From 1984........
On Monday, 12 year old Jimmy Humphrey was riding his four wheeler along the Gasconade River near Hermann, Missouri when he spied a glass Dr. Pepper bottle with a message inside.
Inside, there was a note written on a napkin,
which said: “To whom it may concern: This bottle was thrown in
at Dog’s Bluff! (Houston, MO) If you find it please reply to
Houston, Mo. 65483
Happy fishing!!
March 24, 1984
The bottle would have had to have travelled along the Big Piney River from Dog's Bluff, 77 miles to the Gasconade River. From there, it would have travelled over 100 miles north towards the Missouri River........

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Upper
Mississippi River Illegal passenger vessel operations in Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River ST. LOUIS – Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River is warning the public to avoid unlawful passenger vessel operations. There are continued reports of illegal commercial vessel services including water taxis, excursion vessels and transportation services reserved via on-line applications in popular tourist locations. Unlawful operations include but are not limited to:
The Coast Guard continues to address potential illegal chartering operations in an effort to bring them into compliance with applicable Federal rules and regulations. Charter services that are found to be operating illegally can be subject to civil or criminal penalties. The basic laws and definitions governing charter services can be found in Title 46 United States Code 2101 and Title 46 Code of Federal Regulations 175.400. “Safety is our primary concern,” said Lt. James Long, chief of emergency management and force readiness, Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River. “Passengers that ride any charter service are cautioned to be on the lookout for unlawful practices. In many cases, operations outside of the law undermine safety and expose passengers to undue risk. Passengers could face unnecessary danger on a vessel that has not been inspected by the Coast Guard or is operated by someone without a Coast Guard issued credential.” Any suspected violations can be reported to Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River’s 24-hour Command Center at (314) 269-2332. -USCG-

Mississippi River In St. Paul, Minnesota Woman Stranded On Bridge Pillar Rescued........
After climbing down a rope from the Ford Parkway Bridge to go fishing in the Mississippi River, a 29 year old woman became stranded on a bridge pillar.
The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office reports that the woman shouted to a passer-by on shore to contact her father, who called 911 just before 1:30 pm Tuesday.
Sheriff Bob Fletcher says that this was a dangerous situation for both the woman and the first responders, as the Mississippi River is running high with a strong current, combined with the close proximity of the Lock and Dam........

Marine Products Corporation, the parent company of Chaparral Boats, recently announced that they are donating $100,000 through the O. Wayne Rollins Foundation to the Caring Place, a Nashville, Georgia area non-profit.
The Caring Place offers access to basic resources to the residents of Nashville, GA. and Berren County, where Chaparral is headquartered. Chaparral's donation will increase the frequency of The Caring Place's food distribution program during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Chaparral Boats has also made donations of hundreds of N95 masks to local south Georgia nursing homes, South Georgia Medical Center, Berren Campus, Tift General Hospital and the Chaparral Health Clinic........

Boat Manufacturer Scout Boats Resumes Production........
Scout Boats has announced that they are resuming production across their entire lineup in Summerville, South Carolina following a production pause of some models while the company implemented guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control.
Dave Wallace, vice president and COO of Scout Boats says that they are balancing the need for crisis management while preparing for new opportunities and challenges. He adds that the crisis will pass, and they intend to turn this situation into an opportunity.
While South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster did not make a Stay-At-Home order for manufacturing operations, Scout voluntarily stopped production in areas of operation where it was difficult to maintain social distancing.........

MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - Update Pool 5A (Mile 738.0 – Mile 728.6), Pool 10 (Mile 647.8 – Mile 615.1), Pool 11 (Mile 615.0 – Mile 583.0), Pool 13 (Mile 556.6 – Mile 522.4), Pool 14 (Mile 522.3 – Mile 493.3), Pool 21 (Mile 343.1 – Mile 324.9), Pool 22 (Mile 324.8 – Mile 301.2), Pool 24 (Mile 301.1 – Mile 273.4), Pool 25 (Mile 273.3 – Mile 241.4), Pool 28 (Mile 185.4 – Mile 160.1) and Pool 29 (Mile 160.0 – Mile 109.9). Down-streaming operations are not recommended unless the vessel is equal to or greater than 75 feet in length and the vessel has a minimum of 1,800 h.p. Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate action to prevent any breakaways from occurring. Use caution in all passing and meeting situations and be mindful of all charted bridge navigational clearances. Buoys may have been dragged off station so remain cautious while transiting.
UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL
CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - UPDATE Zone 15 (Mile 493.2 – Mile 482.9), Zone 16 (Mile 482.8 – Mile 457.2), Zone 17 (Mile 457.1 – Mile 437.1), Zone 18 (Mile 437.0 – Mile 410.5) and Zone 20 (Mile 364.1 – Mile 343.2). In St. Louis Harbor, south-bound tows greater than 600 feet in length, excluding the towboat, limit their transit to daylight hours. North-bound tows have enough horsepower to maintain a minimum of 3 MPH, on approach to the St. Louis Harbor Bridges. It is recommended that all towing vessels have a pilot onboard with recent high water experience with similar size tows, through St. Louis Harbor Bridges. All towing vessels should have a minimum of 250 h.p., for every 2,000 tons of cargo. Barges should not be carried on the hip. Down-streaming operations are not recommended unless the vessel is equal to or greater than 75 feet in length and the vessel has a minimum of 1,800 h.p. Mariners are advised to favor the center of the channel and proceed at their slowest safe operating speed based upon the prevailing conditions to minimize wake damage. Vessels should avoid laying up on levees or pushing in where railroad tracks are charted near the bank, assess bridge clearances in advance and ensure fleets are tendered at all times. Mariners should review anchoring requirements and pre-identify layup areas in the event of a river closure or barge breakaway. Mariners should ensure that moored vessels and barges are adequately secured with the anticipation of increased velocity and high water. Drift and debris may be a hazard to navigation and drag buoys off station

ILLINOIS WATERWAY - CHANNEL
CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - Update Zone 5 Havana (Mile 128.9 – Mile 102.0), Zone 4 Beardstown (Mile 101.9 – Mile 80.3), Zone 3 Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0), Zone 2 Hardin (Mile 49.9 – Mile 10.0) and Zone 1 Grafton (Mile 9.0 – Mile 0.0). High water and drift potential may be encountered in this area. Mariners are advised to minimize wake and exercise caution. Avoid laying up on saturated levees. Boating And The Coronavirus Three Governors Reopening Marinas And Boatyards........
Phil Murphy, Governor of New Jersey, Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of New York an Ned Lamont, Governor of Connecticut have announced that marinas, boatyards and marine manufacturers will be allowed to reopen for personal use, so long as strict social distancing and sanitization protocols are followed.
Chartered watercraft services or rentals will not be permitted, and restaurant services at these locations has to be limited to take-out or delivery only, like all other establishments in the three states.
Governor Murphy says that his state is committed to working with their regional partners during the pandemic by aligning their policies when and where appropriate........

Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee Empty Boat Leads Officers To Mascoutah, IL Man's Body........
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports that on Sunday, the body of a 63 year old man from Mascoutah, Illinois was recovered from a Tennessee Lake.
Officers with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded to Reelfoot Lake after receiving reports of an unoccupied boat on the lake.
Officers found the empty boat, which belongs to David Blue, near the Grassy Island Boat Ramp. Officials report that Blue was fishing on the lake without wearing a life jacket........

Mississippi River At Portage Des Sioux, Missouri Our Lady Of The Rivers Shrine Focal Point Of Prayer During COVID-19 Outbreak........
The flooding in 1951 could have been devastating for the town of Portage Des Sioux as the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers were rising. The priest of the parish in Portage Des Sioux started to pray the rosary, and asked Our Lady to intervene and protect the parish, the town and surrounding region from flooding.
Even though the rivers were rising, the town of Portage Des Sioux was spared. Father Jeremy Paulin, pastor of St. Mary's Parish in nearby Alton, Illinois says that it was a miraculous occurrence because of the prayer of the priest and the invitation of the people to pray. The Our Lady of the Rivers statue was erected several years later.
One of the priests at St. Mary's created a prayer, and the local community of Oblates of the Virgin Mary are leading these prayers of intercession asking that the Riverbend region would not be overcome by the COVID-19 pandemic. When the virus has run it's course, Father Paulin intends to lead a pilgrimage to the shrine........

Boat Sales Powerboat Registrations Down During March........
As businesses reacted to the coronavirus outbreak, new powerboat registrations decreased by 18 percent overall during the month of March.
According to preliminary data from Statistical Surveys, new boat registrations were down 16 percent in the main categories, with cruisers and yachts taking the biggest hit.
In the main powerboat segment, pontoons fared the best, falling close to 10 percent, but still up 0.3 percent year-to-date. Aluminum fishing boats fell by 12.7 percent compared with March 2019, but htey also are up 3.7 percent year-to-date........

At Dam 25 near Winfield, Mo a large steel dam gate some 100-feet long, failed when the chain mechanism that raises and lowers it broke at its connection point. The failure was attributed to a faulty mechanical-electric limit switch. It occurred while lock maintenance personnel were lubricating the dam’s gate chains.

Mercury Marine was recently awarded a 2020 Red Dot Design Award for their V6, V8 FourStroke and V8 AMS Verado outboard engines. Mercury won the award with their long-time product design partner, Designworks, a BMW Group Company.
Chris Drees, president of Mercury Marine said that they are honored to receive a Red Dot design award, because that means that Mercury Marine belongs to the best in design and business.

CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - Update Pool 5A (Mile 738.0 – Mile 728.6), Pool 10 (Mile 647.8 – Mile 615.1), Pool 11 (Mile 615.0 – Mile 583.0), Pool 13 (Mile 556.6 – Mile 522.4), Pool 14 (Mile 522.3 – Mile 493.3), Pool 21 (Mile 343.1 – Mile 324.9), Pool 22 (Mile 324.8 – Mile 301.2), Pool 24 (Mile 301.1 – Mile 273.4), Pool 25 (Mile 273.3 – Mile 241.4), Pool 28 (Mile 185.4 – Mile 160.1) and Pool 29 (Mile 160.0 – Mile 109.9). Use caution in all passing and meeting situations and be mindful of all charted bridge navigational clearances. Buoys may have been dragged off station so remain cautious while transiting.
UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL
CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - UPDATE Zone 15 (Mile 493.2 – Mile 482.9), Zone 16 (Mile 482.8 – Mile 457.2), Zone 17 (Mile 457.1 – Mile 437.1), Zone 18 (Mile 437.0 – Mile 410.5) and Zone 20 (Mile 364.1 – Mile 343.2). In St. Louis Harbor, south-bound tows greater than 600 feet in length, excluding the towboat, limit their transit to daylight hours. North-bound tows have enough horsepower to maintain a minimum of 3 MPH, on approach to the St. Louis Harbor Bridges. It is recommended that all towing vessels have a pilot onboard with recent high water experience with similar size tows, through St. Louis Harbor Bridges. All towing vessels should have a minimum of 250 h.p., for every 2,000 tons of cargo. Barges should not be carried on the hip. Down-streaming operations are not recommended unless the vessel is equal to or greater than 75 feet in length and the vessel has a minimum of 1,800 h.p. Mariners are advised to favor the center of the channel and proceed at their slowest safe operating speed based upon the prevailing conditions to minimize wake damage. Vessels should avoid laying up on levees or pushing in where railroad tracks are charted near the bank, assess bridge clearances in advance and ensure fleets are tendered at all times. Mariners should review anchoring requirements and pre-identify layup areas in the event of a river closure or barge breakaway. Mariners should ensure that moored vessels and barges are adequately secured with the anticipation of increased velocity and high water. Drift and debris may be a hazard to navigation and drag buoys off station

Mississippi River Near Dubuque, Iowa Train Derails Into The Mississippi River........
Monday morning, a locomotive and about a dozen railcars derailed after striking a large boulder on the tracks in Grant County, Wisconsin.
Several of the railcars ended up partially in the Mississippi River, however, a BNSF Railway Spokeswoman says that the railcars were empty, and that there are no obvious signs of leakage into the river.
The train derailment occurred shortly before 11 am Monday morning between the Fenley State Recreation Area and the confluence of the Platte River and the Mississippi River. The derailment site is somewhat across the river from the John Deere Dubuque Works.........

Mississippi River In The Riverbend Quarantine Hits Tourism Industry Hard........
Once the stay-at-home order is lifted, the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau will be springing into action, however, they recognize that the shutdown has devastated the tourism industry.
Several Riverbend attractions have been closed down for over a month, however, there are still some public places that can be visited when social distancing guidelines are followed.
According to Brett Stawar, the President of the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau says that once the ban on activities is lifted, visitors will be ready to see the sights, and the Riverbend will be prepared........

Boater Education In-Command Seamanship Training Introducing Virtual Classroom........
In-Command Seamanship Training has partnered with Wickford Boat Rentals to offer safe and practical learning programs and recreational opportunities, including virtual classrooms.
According to Captain David Featherston, president and CEO of In-Command Seamanship Training, the establishment has become a center of excellence for a wide variety of classrooms and on-the-water programs. He adds that in order to help ease the stress of social distancing, they are introducing their new In-Command Virtual Classroom.
The In-Command Seamanship Training lectures are going to be live and interactive, and given bu In-Command's certified Captains with a defined class schedule. The exams will be administered remotely, and all necessary paperwork for student credentials will be filed electronically........

Illinois River Near Henry, Illinois Middle River Marine Expanding Barge Fleeting Space.........
Middle River Marine recently announced that they had recently received permitting from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District to add another 100-plus fleeting spaces along the Illinois River between Mile Markers 197 and 198.2 along the left descending bank (east shore) of the Illinois River.
The location is opposite of the Henry Port, and provides critically needed fleeting and staging areas necessary to efficiently run boat operations, both up and down the Illinois River.
According to Steve King, EVP of Sales & Business Development for Middle River Marine, adding fleeting space at that point along the Illinois River will help alleviate future congestion while providing new capacity during the 2020 lock closures.........

Lake Of The Ozarks SeaRay Collided With Docked Bass Boat........
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that on Saturday, two boats were damaged in a collision on the Lake of the Ozarks, however, no injuries were reported.
The MSHP reports that around 3:45 pm Saturday, 61 year old Ralph McLaughlin was piloting a 1998 SeaRay 210 near Public Beach No.2, when he crashed into a docked 2017 Skeeter FX21.
The SeaRay sustained minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. The Skeeter was significantly damaged and had to be towed.........
