St. Louis Area Waterways

Confluence Trash Bash Held Saturday........

On Saturday, hundreds of volunteers turned out to some St. Louis area waterways for the 7th annual Confluence Trash Bash.  Trash cleanups were held at six locations across the St. Louis region, between Creve Coeur Lake and the Mississippi River.

Over the years, the trash bash has cleaned up over 61 tons of trash and some 5,000 tires.  This year, volunteers cleaned up mostly cans, bottles and plastic bags, but there were some odd items like a toothbrush and tooth paste, and large items like a washing machine.

The Confluence Trash Bash was organized by the Great Rivers Greenway, Greenway Network, St. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District, Missouri American Water, St. Louis Audubon Society, St. Louis Brightside, St. Louis County, the Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Stream Team, Missouri River Relief, St. Louis Forward, and Big Muddy Adventures........

The Mississippi River Is On The Way Up........

According to the National Weather Service, the Mississippi River at Memphis, Tennessee is expected to rise more than ten feet over the next ten days.  As of Wednesday evening, the river was at 21 feet.

There are storms dumping rain in the Ohio River Valley, which will cause the Mississippi River to rise more than ten feet.  Snow and ice have melted as well, contributing to the rising river.

Officials are saying that portions of Mud Island Park likely will be submerged over the next week or so when the Mississippi River hits it's crest just below flood stage........

Boaters Must Be Very Cautious In Flooded Areas........

Winter runoff combined with spring showers results in higher water levels, and flooding.  The Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging boaters to be extra vigilant, as flooded areas pose unique challenges.

The Highway Patrol is says boaters must be more cautious while there is flooding, because flooded waterways with currents pose some of the most hazardous conditions a boater is likely to encounter.

Swift water can easily capsize a boat or personal watercraft, especially when fixed objects such as trees and buildings are present.  The Highway Patrol advises that sometimes, staying off the water is the safest decision a boater can make........

Duck Club Yacht Club

Once again its been a long and cold winter and Spring is just right around the corner. Yes, I know snow is still on the ground however we need to think about the marina clean up day. We have scheduled clean up earlier than normal for this year. Easter is in early April and the club opens in a few weeks so we decided to get a jump on this. Clean up day is scheduled for March 14th at starting at 10am. This is general light grounds maintenance such as mulching, planting, trimming, leaf blowing, etc. Also removal of trash and logs along the banks that may have accumulated over the winter. I would like to concentrate on cleaning up around the trash containers this year. Heavy lifting may be involved there, so a few good members with strong backs will be appreciated. In case of inclement weather, March 21st will be the alternative clean up day.
Thanks in advance!

St. Paddy's Day On Water Parade........

St. Patrick's Day at the Lake of the Ozarks is not only the day where everyone is a bit Irish, but it also marks the return of Spring.  And what better way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day than on the water?

On March 14th 2015, the Lake of the Ozarks will be hosting The Saint Patrick's Parade on the Water.  This year, there is a new route, that begins at Captain Ron's.  Breakfast will be available at Captain Ron's beginning at 8 am.  The parade officially begins at 10 am.

After departing Captain Ron's, The St Patrick's Parade on the Water will wind it's way to Bear Bottom, Bulldog's Beach House, and wrap up at Larry's on the Lake........

Missouri Department Of Conservation

MDC Paddlefish Season Opens

The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that their annual spring paddlefish snagging season will begin on March 15, and run through April 30.

The MDC makes paddlefish snagging possible by stocking several Missouri lakes and waterways with about 38,000 foot long fingerlings, which were raised at the MDC's Blind Pony Hatchery.

MDC Fisheries Management Biologist Trish Yasger says that if the MDC didn't annually stock the lakes and waterways paddlefish snagging would go by the wayside........
