Additional Details Released About Riverboat Plans........

On Saturday, officials released more details about American Cruise Line's intent to make Alton a hub for their four riverboats beginning next year.

During Wednesday's meeting of the Alton City Council, a five year agreement with American Cruise Lines was approved, granting their riverboats priority docking for turnarounds along Alton's riverfront starting in 2020.

The agreement also allows American Cruise Lines the option to dock their boats for additional five-year terms, while requiring the cruise line to promote tourism and retail activity in Alton........

Mississippi River Still Threatening Louisiana........

As hurricane season is hitting it's peak, the Mississippi River in Louisiana is still running considerably higher than normal, raising concerns in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and points in between.

Over the past several months, the Mississippi River has been applying pressure on the New Orleans levees.  The city is mostly below sea level, and for more than 200 days, the Mississippi River has been over 11 feet higher than sea level.

According to Nicholas Pinter, expert on river dynamics and flood risks, the main threat to New Orleans is water getting through or under the levee.  He also said that the longer the flood duration, the greater the threat........

Blessing of the Fleet Update........

Ladies and gentlemen. Next Saturday is the blessing of the fleet. Parade will leave from the Yacht Club of St. Louis at 12:45 on Saturday afternoon. We will travel down river past Island 521 past the ferry and go all the way to the confluence buoy of the Mississippi and the Illinois Rivers . We will be at Grafton between 130 and 145 pm. The route will be as far up River as the Hawg Pit due to concerns for boaters not familiar with the Illinois side of the river. We will turn around at the Hawg Pit and head back down river toward the balance of the parade going to Our Lady of the Rivers Shrine in Portage des Sioux . Boaters from Grafton can join the parade at any point. The lead boat this year will be Lou and Tommy Lenkman aboard WillPower. We will have a follow me sign on the back of our boat. The Blessing of the fleet coming from Alton upriver will be John Bloch aboard Audi Bee he will also have a banner on the back of his boat. He will be leading the parade from Alton up to our Lady of the rivers. Departing at 1 o’clock. If you have more questions go to the blessing of the fleet Facebook page and you can find out more details there hope to see you all on the water or come and sit by the river.

Judging and prizes will be held at LaRosa Tiki Hut in Portage des Sioux.

Glenns Creek Near Frankfort, Kentucky

Distillery Spill Into Creek May Have Caused Fish Kill........

Kentucky Environmental officials report that untreated wastewater from a distillery spilled into a creek, killing an unknown number of fish.

On Thursday, dead fish and discolored water were discovered in Glenns Creek near Frankfort, Kentucky.  John Mura, spokesman for the Kentucky Division of Water reports that the Castle & Key Distillery's water treatment system failed, sending the oxygen depleted wastewater into the creek.

Mura stated that the distillery will be issued a notice of violation, with penalties of $25,000 per incident per day possibly being assessed.  The state will decide on any penalties after meeting with the company and determining what happened.

08-12-19

Ladies and gentlemen. Next Saturday is the blessing of the fleet. Parade will leave from the Yacht Club of St. Louis at 12:45 on Saturday afternoon. We will travel down river past Island 521 past the ferry and go all the way to the confluence buoy of the Mississippi and the Illinois Rivers . We will be at Grafton between 130 and 145 pm. The route will be as far up River as the Hawg Pit due to concerns for boaters not familiar with the Illinois side of the river. We will turn around at the Hawg Pit and head back down river toward the balance of the parade going to Our Lady of the Rivers Shrine in Portage de Sioux .

Down by the river and over the hill,
sits the small town of Grafton where people can chill.
The pelicans glide by the banks in a line,
the eagles soar high while we watch and drink wine.
You can sail thru the waves of the river in a boat
or just fish and relax and go for a float.
Up on the bluffs in the forest so deep,
the chant of the whippoorwills will sing you to sleep.

Plans for the club.....
The Clubhouse is insured with FEMA. The adjusters have been through the club and will hopefully be letting us know in the next coming weeks whether or not the building is repairable. We are on hold until that point.
The club got approximately 6 ft of water, covering all electric panels and all AC units. So clean up of building is taking longer while getting temp electric/water going.
I understand there is a lot of speculation, but there will be a club/pool at the harbor
We are doing the best we can and I will keep you informed as we hear.
Sorry, as I know this is not the season you were hoping for.
