ZONE/INTERMITTENT RIVER CLOSURES ILLINOIS RIVER
ILLINOIS WATERWAY - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY Mariners should exercise caution and minimize wake in all high water zones. The laying-up on saturated levees is prohibited. Mariners should be experienced in high water conditions and avoid downstreaming operations. Mariners should remain vigilant to an increase in debris and maneuver appropriately. Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate action to prevent barge breakaways. Exercise caution in all passing/meeting situations as swift current may be present. Navigation buoys may have been dragged off station, so remain alert while transiting. Recreational traffic is discouraged.

Upcoming Events Wednesday, May 4, 2022 Mississippi River Near Granite City, Illinois Public Meeting About I-270 Bridge Replacement Coming Up........
From 4 - 7 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, a public meeting will be held to discuss the proposed replacement of the Interstate 270 Chain of Rocks Bridge spanning the Mississippi River near Granite City, Illinois, as well as required changes to Riverfront Drive in Missouri.
The meeting, which will be held at the Southwestern Illinois College's Granite City Campus, will be in an open house format with exhibits on display. Officials with the Illinois and Missouri Departments of Transportation will be on hand to discuss the project and answer any questions.
The existing four lane I-270 Chain of Rocks Bridge was constructed in 1966 and is nearing it's planned life. Over the years, traffic count has increased considerably, rising from about 19,000 vehicles per day in 1975 to about 51,000 vehicles daily. Around 20 percent of that traffic is heavy trucks........

Mississippi River At Cape Girardeau, Missouri American Countess Stopping In Cape Girardeau On Friday........
The four deck, sternwheel riverboat, the American Countess, will be stopping along the Cape Girardeau riverfront on Friday, from about noon to 5 pm, barring a last-minute change in it's schedule.
The American Countess is the newest sternwheel boat owned by the American Queen Steamboat Company. The vessel is capable of accommodating 245 passengers. This will be the first of 24 planned riverboat visits between now and November 18.
During it's five-hour stop, the American Countess will not be available for public tours. Brenda Newbern, executive director of Visit Cape says that the policy was put into place following the attacks on September 11, 2001........

Boat Manufacturer BRP Increased Manitou Manufacturing Capability........
BRP Inc. recently announced the creation of nearly 200 jobs at their Manitou manufacturing facility in Lansing, Michigan, which will close to double their workforce in the state.
Construction on the expansion of the existing Lansing facility began in April, and the company is also adding manufacturing and warehousing capacity in St. Johns, Michigan.
According to Quentin Messer, Jr. CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the President and Chair of the Michigan Strategic Fund, the project is a win for the Lansing region, as well as for the entire state........

Grafton Ferry
The Grafton Ferry is opening for the season on April 22, 2022 !
Hours are Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will not be open on Thursday this year, just not enough traffic.
The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market
Street. The landing on the Missouri side is at Grafton Ferry
Road, which is just off of Highway 94.
